THE MILL

The idea for The Mill is based on the Salo region's watercourses and the cultural landscape of the river valley. The work is situated in the upper reaches of the Halikko river, along the canoeing route. It offers overnight shelter and a resting place for canoeists and hikers, and includes fireplaces and sleeping platforms. The waterwheel situated in midstream produces energy for use in the shelters. The main building material is wood.

The purpose of this work is to create a multipurpose space which combines a water mill with an archetypal wilderness hut in keeping with the spirit of ecology.
