COLLEGE OF APPLIED ART: ENVIRONMENTAL ART STUDENTS/MARKKU HAKURI Secret Garden Waste disposal reservoirs were built in Salo in the 1960s which were closed down in the 1980s due to the fact that, owing to the Finnish climate, they did not work as expected. These waste-water reservoirs were turned into a nature reserve, principally for the protection of the bird population. Absolutely nothing, however, has been done about the contamination. The soil and water in the reservoirs is still in the same polluted state as before, and is perhaps even somewhat worse, as one of the reservoirs continues to be used as a dump for lorry-loads of environmentally hazardous waste.
