SIKKE KIVIRANTA JA ANTTI TOLVI The Loupe The Loupe is an environmental project in which the public can participate by making observations about the Halikko Bay area. The observations will be collected in journals during the summers of 2006, 2008 and 2010. The Loupe is a research shelter which has equipment that can be used to examine the sea. There is, among other things, a loupe or magnifying glass, a net, a weather vane, binoculars and a device for listening to the sounds of the water. The shelter is also a hiding place for watching the animal life of the bay. You can sit on the bench and listen to the sigh of the wind, smell the air, follow the course of the day as described by the changes in the landscape, and pause for a moment, unfettered by time. The sun-shaped weather vane on the roof of the shelter can be seen from both land and sea. The journals encourage people to note the condition of the sea and write down their thoughts, feelings and ideas for change. From the journals, the artists will compile a document for use by environment officials and decision makers. Art is thus a means of looking at and considering the feelings and thoughts people have about the relationship between cause and effect which impacts our coastal waters.
