Why Abandoned?

Features of old gardens bring the past with them. The daily routine, the life and the people. Abandoned houses have much to tell if we know how to listen, but then again it is the silence that touches us so deeply. The sounds of life have gone.

Swifts dart in and out of the upper storey of the deserted building, where the window frames are sagging.

In the garden there are several apple trees grown wild, and the warm wind makes the long grass whistle softly. Long-horned grasshoppers play their tune and butterflies dance all around. It smells of summer.

A fox cub peeks through a gap in the door. His eyes shine with curiosity, innocence and happiness. I feel rather left out of this scene and my mind becomes wistful: decades ago the same thing could have been seen by a boy peering out from behind that door.
