THE MAGIC OF WATER , floating www.vedentaika.fi The Magic of Water ‘The Magic of Water’ is a bird nesting and water restoring biosculpture and a remediation project of nature in Halikonlahti bay in the pools of Salo City Waste Water Purification Plant, yet under construction. It is funded partly by the city of Salo, partly by the EU´s Agency for Rural Affairs and supported by the Maj and Tor Nessling Foundation. It will be prepared in and by the Salo Regional Vocational School with the expert assistance of Ecovillage Institute in Scotland and the Salo City Gardening Department. The public is welcome to follow the development of island building and construction in pools as part of the WATERWAYS –exhibition. This ecological art project is a series of floating islands and a phenomenological sculpture with mist, using energy rather produced by solar and wind energy, situated in the lagoons that used to be part of the sewage treatment processes of the Salo Municipal Sewage Treatment Facility. Today, many different species of water birds live and nest in the lagoons. The islands will provide safe nesting sites separated from land to protect the eggs and young birds from small mammals and will feature specially chosen plants that can remove pollutants from the water and help create conditions for abundant aquatic life. The plants and associated microbial life transform toxins and nutrients into food-over time, cleaning the sediment, completing the cycle of transformation that began years ago with the sewage treatment process.
