DESERT, 2008, clay from the seabed

The bottom seabed of Baltic sea is said to be the largest desert in the world. The lack of oxygen has made it unsuitable for living organism. ‘Desert’ combines sea bottom as clay with the form of waves.

PLASTIC SEA, a statue from plastic waste in Salo

Children of Utö island in the outer archipelago of Southern Finland have collected empty plastic bottles from the shore, thrown into waves from the by-passing ships. Together with Pive Toivonen the children prepared floating child-like figures of these plastic bottles, and filled them with messages.
